He was an inveterate traveller who began travelling in his teens, explored <a title=\"Asia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asia\">Asia<\/a> and witnessed the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Russian Revolution of 1917\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Russian_Revolution_of_1917\">Russian Revolution<\/a>, among other adventures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In his own words a &#8220;camera-coolie and a roughneck&#8221;, Williams was the <a title=\"National Geographic Society\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Geographic_Society\">Geographic<\/a>&#8216;s first foreign correspondent, and his reports include a description of the opening of the <a title=\"Tomb\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tomb\">tomb<\/a> of <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Tutankhamen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tutankhamen\">Tutankhamen<\/a> in 1923. Maynard Williams was also an excellent photographer, and pioneered travel <a title=\"Photography\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Photography\">photography<\/a>.
