{"id":1543,"date":"2018-01-29T15:04:47","date_gmt":"2018-01-29T15:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/doorbin.af\/?p=1543"},"modified":"2018-01-29T15:11:24","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T15:11:24","slug":"the-old-city-of-herat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/?p=1543","title":{"rendered":"The Old City Of Herat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1547 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/15-1-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/15-1-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/15-1-768x557.jpg 768w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/15-1.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Herat is one of the most ancient cities in Asia and the most famous Islamic city of Khorasan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">In its\u00a0history,\u00a0it has been a cradle of western and eastern civilizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Once it was located along the Silk Road, so it was one of the crossing points of important roads of Central Asia, Middle East and South Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Herat is made up of two distinguished parts, one is the old city and another is the new city which was built in 1934.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Kohandezh (the likely site of pre-13th century Herat) and part of the city from the Timurid era (now only some ruins are remaining) located in the Khiyaban area are apart from this division.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Herat\u2019s old city was designed in a small area that had four big towers as following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Northeastern Tower called \u201cKalan Bigh\u201d;<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Southeastern Tower called \u201cAbdullah Misry\u201d;<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Southwestern Tower called \u201cKhakester\u201d or \u201cKhak Bar Sar\u201d;<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">Northwestern Tower called \u201cFeel Khanah\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The surrounding walls had small\u00a0towers, as part of the defense-system of Herat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Herat\u2019s old city had four gates opening to four directions. On the north alone it had two gates. These gates were:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Eastern Gate, called \u201cDarb-e-Khosh\u201d;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Southern Gate, called \u201cDarb-e-Qandahar\u201d or \u201cDarb-e-Ferooz Abad\u201d;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Western Gate, called \u201cDarb-e-Iraq\u201d;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Northeastern Gate-eastward, called \u201cQotbichaaq\u201d,<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Northern Gate-westward, called \u201cDarb-e-Malik.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each gate had a bridge over the big moat which was dug around the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Herat city has four localities:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Qotbichaaq Locality;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Mohmands Locality;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Bardaraniha Locality;<\/li>\n<li style=\"direction: ltr;\">Abdullah Misri Locality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>Generally, there were three centers in the city:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Citadel (Arg): Place of residence of governor and governmental administrations;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Great Mosque: Place of religious gatherings;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Char Sawq: Place of trade and dealing goods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1549 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/16-1-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/16-1-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/16-1-768x505.jpg 768w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/16-1-310x205.jpg 310w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/16-1.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1546\" src=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/14-2-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/14-2-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/doorbin.af\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/14-2.jpg 463w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Herat is one of the most ancient cities in Asia and the most famous Islamic city of Khorasan.
